Prof. A.C. Tella received his B.Sc. Chemistry at University of Lagos, Nigeria in 1988. He obtained M.Sc.   Chemistry   in 2001 and Ph.D. degree in Chemistry in 2008 at University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria.  Prof. Tella began his career in Pharmaceutical industry and worked in Medac Pharmaceutical industries Ltd.  Oyo between 1989 to 1995 as Quality Control manager. He joined Sam Pharmaceutical Ltd. Ilorin in 1995, where he worked as Quality control Assurance manager till 2002. His love for teaching profession made him to start his academic career in 2002 as Assistant lecturer in Department of Chemistry, University of Ilorin. He rose through the ranks to become Professor of Chemistry on 1st October, 2017. He has also held many key positions at University of Ilorin including, Examination officer, Departmental Postgraduate Coordinator and Head of Department of Chemistry (2016 – 2018).

He had been a visiting Scientist   in   University of Cape Town, South   Africa   and Queen University Belfast, U.K between 2009 – 2013. He received JWT Jones fellowship (RSC) in 2011. He is a member of both Royal society of Chemistry and Fellow Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria.   He is Ph.D. External Examiner to University of Fort-Hare, South Africa and University of Johannesburg, South Africa, University of Johannesburg, South Africa, Nelson Mandela University, South Africa, University of Cape Town, South Africa, University Kwa-zulu Natal, South Africa and Midlands State University, Zimbabwe and many Universities in Nigeria He has successfully supervised 9 (Nine ) Ph.D.  and 40 M.Sc students as Major Supervisor. He is currently a Visiting Professor in University of South Africa, Pretoria, South Africa. He has more 80 publications in reputable journals. Prof. Tella is a Principal Investigator of a research team of TETFund National Research Fund(NRF) Intervention  grant project working on “Development of a Hand-held Device using Functionalized Metal organic frameworks for Application in the Selective Detection of Nitro Aromatic Explosives” at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria.
